Hiring a Roofing Contractor? Find Out What Questions You Should be Asking.

questions-to-ask

Nowadays, there are so many roofing contractors out there that you should ask as many questions as possible before hiring one. You should be as informed as you can be about their work, their experience and their licensing and insurance before you make your decision. Having your roof repaired or replaced is a hefty financial expense, and you can’t afford to make a mistake when choosing who will complete the work on your home. Find out what questions you should ask before you hire a contractor for the job.

  • Are you licensed?
  • First of all, you should be aware that licenses vary from state to state. Therefore, it is good to check the regulations of your state and make sure the contractor has the necessary licenses to operate. Make sure the license is legitimate and up to date.

  • Do you have your own team or do you use subcontractors?
  • This is a very crucial question because if the roofer is using subcontractors, then you also need to be completely sure of their qualifications. However, if they are using their own team, it’s easier to make sure that every person working on your home is qualified and insured. This is not to say that you shouldn’t use a company that uses subcontractors. You should just make sure that you are aware of each individual and their license, insurance and qualifications.

  • Do you offer warranties?
  • There are companies that offer warranties either on the materials used or the work done. Make sure you have all the details on the types of warranties the company you’re working with offers so that you can protect yourself against damages to the roof in the immediate future.

  • Do you have insurance coverage?
  • This is absolutely essential for any contractor you plan on hiring. The insurance should cover both general liability and worker’s compensation. Make sure you have written evidence of the type of insurance the company you’re working with is using.
